In your quest to survive
the night you are going to come across many different characters
and packs of hunters. Each armed with their own motives and not
to mention ways of taking you down.
The characters of the game have been split up into two categories;
they consist of the characters and hunters which are the groups
of enemy in the game. Since the hunters are vast and varied they
have been described as a whole rather than analysing each member
of the gangs.

Convicted and sentenced
to death, James Earl Cash had spent the past
three years on death row awaiting sentencing
and tonight was his night, justice was served
and Cash had met his fate. Or so the rest
of the world believes. A director by the name
Starkweather has given Cash a reprieve, a
second lease of life - but at a price. Cash
must partake in a heinous game of life or
death, hunt or be hunted is the mandate, death,
torture and misery is the goal and all for
the pleasure of others. |

A one time wealthy and
productive Hollywood film director, now shunned
from the industry, bitter and angry at those
that brought forward his downfall Starkweather
seeks revenge on those that engineered the
collapse of his empire. Starkweathers decent
into madness is further aggravated by being
reduced to filming underground pornographic
and snuff movies for special clientele with
emphasis on the Japanese market. Through the
use of his new ‘MANHUNT’ snuff
movies Starkweather has amassed enough power
and wealth to extract revenge on those responsible.
Over the past 12 months various powerful Hollywood
power-players have gone missing, themselves
becoming stars of Starkweather own personal
movies which the director refers to as his
‘directors cut’ collection. |

Suspicious of recent
events happening around Carcer the journalist,
who is a local reporter for ‘Carcer
City News’, has been monitoring Starkweathers
actions for several months, building up a
case file in order to further her career.
Tonight she was on-hand to report the execution
of James Earl Cash, which took place just
5 hours ago. She knows that if she can track
Cash down and get a testament from him as
well as footage to prove that he is still
alive then there will be sufficient evidence
in order to bring Starkweathers new found
empire to the ground once and for all. The
only problem for her is how to track Cash
down now that Starkweather is on to her and
with the conspiracy going all the way to the
top of local law enforcement there is no one
else to turn to. She has to work alone. |

Currently under investigation
for corruption charges, Gary Shaffer is the
Carcer City Police Chief. This isn’t
the first time that Shaffer has found himself
under such scrutiny, in 2001 Shaffer was cleared
of corruption charges when the witnesses miraculously
went missing. He is currently in cahoots with
Starkweather, cleaning up any mess that may
arise from the directors sick and twisted
games. Shaffer is ordered to have his men
pick up Cash and deliver him to Starkweather,

The ever evasive Mr.
Nasty is the man behind it all, he is believed
to be the financial backer and producer of
the snuff ring under his company name; Valiant
Video Enterprises. He runs his business under
strict scrutiny, reserved strictly for members,
selling all manner of things from gimp masks
to explicit movies from the hunts. Not much
information is known of Mr. Nasty but he appears
to like to dress up like a member of the Hoods.
He strikes a resemblance to the crowbar wielding
Hood in ‘Doorway into Hell’. Since
he wears a mask however, it is impossible
to know if this was indeed Nasty himself.
Could this be why Valiant-ent.tv hasn’t
been updated in so long? |

With his patented chainsaw in hand, Piggsy
is a chainsaw-welding madman. Piggsy is the star
of many of Starkweather’s releases and has
the war wounds to prove it, ‘Piggsy bloopers’
and "Piggsy’s Greatest Hits" being
two of the more popular to star the loveable rogue.
Piggsy is kept on tight leash and lives in the
attic of Starkweathers mansion under the supervision
of the Cerberus. Piggsy also has an acute sense
of smell and can often be seen sniffing his foes
out before slicing them up with his chainsaw.
Speaking of his chainsaw, ever the sadomasochist,
Piggsy likes to keep the blades of his chainsaw
blunt in order to inflict the maximum amount of
pain upon his prey. He also likes to sign his
chainsaws with an X, presumably with the blood
of his victim. |

Working as Starkweater’s
go-to man, Ramirez operates directly under
the supervision of Starkweather and has full
authority over the gangs of Carcer City. He
is no stranger to having a staring role in
Starkweather’s productions after previously
staring in his own movie ‘‘Let’s
Play “Ramirez Sez”’. Being
Starkweather’s right hand man Ramirez
can often be seen at time of uncertainty rallying
the gangs together and given out orders. Ramirez
has a squadron of hunters himself, known as
the Wardogs, wherever Ramirez goes you can
be sure that the Wardogs aren’t too
far behind. Ramirez is a master of survival
and has high end motivational skills, he also
prefers to indulge in melee attacks rather
than resorting to firepower, however he is
no stranger to a 12 gauge. |

Not much is known of
the tramp; Cash stumbles across the bum and
is required to free the tramp from captivity
by Starkweather. Starkweather goes on to tell
Cash that in order for him to make it through
this he must personally escort the bum to
safety. The tramp is believed to work for
Starkweather, perhaps as a hunter himself
at one point and is now used as a prop for
Starkweather’s movies after previously
staring in ‘The Tramp Who Knew Too Much’. |

The rabbit taunts the star of the ‘manhunts’,

be ambushed by a pack of waiting hunters.
As nervous as the rabbit is, that isn’t
to say he isn’t without bite, when cornered
the rabbit will pull hit shotgun out and use
it on the predator that seeks salvage on him. |

Under the orders of the
Chief of Police Gary Shaffer the CCPD are
ordered to surround the journalist’s
apartment and bring both Cash and the journalist
to Starkweather alive. The CCPD tend to operate
in groups of two and upward, rarely breaking
formation in order to secure all grounds.
Under ideal situations they like to be well
informed of the background of the perpetrator
and reason for arrest, however they tend act
first and ask questions later. |

The Hoods are a local
gang and are made up of a mixed bag of off-duty
cops and local thugs. They partake in the
hunt largely for financial gain rather than
the vicious brutality enjoyed by the other
hunters. The hoods are unruly for the most
part; they are noisy and impulsive. They suffer
from a lack of concentration during the hunt,
treating it like weekend deer hunting. The
Hoods dress in dark, non-descriptive street
cloths and wear an assortment of balaclavas
and ski masks. Their style of hunting is different
from the others, whereas others rely on formation
and instinct the Hoods operate on their own,
making them easy to isolate and pick off. |

The Innocentz are a street
gang absorbed in sect imagery. Although young,
they are fierce fighters who prefer to use
their combined force rather than individual
skill. The gang is made up of two specific
groups - The Skullyz form the basic horde,
but Starkweather brought in the Babyfaces
to add muscle and a distressing contrast to
the gang. The Skullyz resent this intrusion
and are genuinely uneasy around them, for
good reason. Basically, the Skullyz are playing
the part of lunatics and the Babyfaces are
the real deal, but they all behave like human
jackals. Starkweather has hired the gang from
somewhere in the East Los Albos area. They
make their debut at the Carcer City Mall. |

Native to the Carcer
City Zoo and only come out to play during
the bonus scene ‘Monkey See, Monkey
Die’. The Monkeys arm themselves with
sawn off shotguns and machetes. The Monkeys
are very territorial and loyal to the pack,
they have tendencies to loose their cool,
in particular when there's a lack of bananas
to eat, in such situations they become very
unpredictable and take their rage out on the
nearest bystander. |

The Skinz are an archetypal
neo-nazi white power gang. Overall, they tend
to work as baboon packs, and are very aggressive
and willing to attack rashly. They partake
in the hunt mostly for a sadistic violence.
The Skinz are disorderly, boisterous, and
reckless. The Skinz are more dangerous and
violent then the Hoods and under the order
of Ramirez they move into the Junkyard to
prove they can do better than the hoods. They
wear trademark hockey masks as seen in the
movies with these they can be quite intimidating
but not all of the gang wear these masks instead
they prefer to have a tattoo on their forehead
with their gang name. |

Smileys are a loose throng
of the insane, serial killers, psychotics,
and sadists. They are truly twisted, and one
of the most intense packs of hunters you'll
face. The Smileys hunt using their trademark
smiley masks, often splattered with the blood
of previous victims or their own from self-mutilation
rituals. They take perverse pleasure in the
pain and torture that they inflict upon others.
Their dialogue ranges from demented animal
noises to chanted nursery rhymes. Many of
the Smileys talk to themselves or to their
imaginary friends ... you may think that one
is calling you out, when all he's really doing
is mumbling to himself. |

Operating
under the command of Ramirez and based in
the neglected Carcer City Zoo, the Wardogs
are the most dangerous and efficient killers
on Starkweather’s payroll. They consist
of ex-military Special Forces and obsessive
hunters for hire, a few members stay true
to their military backgrounds and often communicate
in Special Forces code-phrases, but often
others lack actual knowledge, so they improvise.
They are experts in both tactics and weaponry.
Their preferred tactics are ambushes, baiting
and luring, and full-on frontal assaults.
Despite their training, their animal instincts
sometimes take over while pursing prey and
they become noisy and highly excitable. "Take
No Prisoners" is their motto, and they
hunt their prey with a viciousness matched
by none. |
