Those of you worried that Bored List Compiling Guy had lost his job during this economical crisis we are currently in midst of need worry no longer, for he has surfaced over at Yahoo Games and has compiled a list of the Top
10 Controversial Games.
We all know that a “top X controversial X list” isn’t complete without at least one of the Manhunt titles getting a mention; this time around it is Manhunt 2. Don’t worry about the game getting lonely on the list either as it is joined by its younger sibling Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
Bored List Compiling Guy had the following to say about Manhunt 2:
Officially destroying the Wii's innocence, Manhunt 2 allowed users to perform horrific executions using the system's motion-sensitive controllers. That quickly earned it the dreaded AO rating by the ESRB, effectively rendering it banned until the developers edited the offending content. Sadly, all that hubbub was for naught, as the game received low scores and marginal sales.
I don't want to be the one to remind him that Far Cry, Scarface, The Godfather or Resident Evil 4 were all released on the Nintendo Wii before Manhunt 2 or that Manhunt 2 actually received mostly above average to great review scores (many of which do seem to be missing from Metacritic though, conspiracy!). But I am impressed with his knowledge on how well Manhunt 2 sold, especially considering we have actually invested quite a bit of time into trying to get sales figures for it and have come up with only half-hearted guesses.
Don't be too hard on the guy though, he hasn't put together a list in a few months so of course he is going to be a little rusty. It could be worse; he could have forgotten to mention Manhunt at all. Blasphemy!
