Manhunt 2 News | Sony Say No to Adult Orientated Games

Wired have posted an article titled ‘Manhunt 2 Meltdown Shows Game-Killing Power of Adults-Only Rating’, the article, which is pretty much just a summary of everything surrounding the rating of Manhunt 2 does, however, contain a new quote from the director of corporate communications at SCEA, David Karraker.

Karraker reiterates that Sony and adult rated titles are not something that is going to happen:

We want to offer age-appropriate entertainment for our consumers but do not want to be associated with material that is gratuitously violent or pornographic.

That is a pretty absurd statement, what he is in effect saying is that the consumer is unable to differentiate the content and creator of the game from those that have manufactured the console itself. That is like implying when you go and see a movie that you assume that your local cinema made the movie that you are watching.

In the future can we look forward to Sony installing an anti-gore prevention system into their next line of Bravia television sets or a self-blur filter to prevent the innocent eyes of the world from the explicit nudity available on the internet through their VAIO line of computers?

I can understand not wanting to create such content, but not third party publishers, publish the content, should they choose to do so is ridiculous. And besides, he obviously is not too familiar with the games that Sony themselves develop and publish, God of War anyone?

Manhunt Updates | Site Updates and New Features On-Line

I am finally able to get the site updates online. It has been quite a bit since I last updated the news with the latest additions to the site, fortunately there is quite a bit to add.
Our Q&A with Jeff Gurner is now online as well as a feature on the Debug Menu, which I never realised wasn’t uploaded. The Features page as a whole was redone, so hopefully it is easier to follow. The Carcer Stores feature has also been updated with 9 new additions. And the Journalist Interview has been revised.

The Trivia section has been heavily updated, with even more coming soon. Other sections to be updated include the Sequel page, which now has just about every rumour that is around about Manhunt 2. There have also been minor updates to the Downloads, Characters, Scenes and Weapons sections.

The Fan Art section has now been added to the Image Gallery. If you would like to submit work to be added here then contact us and let us know.

I also recently went through our Affiliates list and noticed quite a few of out affiliates where offline or had removed a link back to the site. If you would like to be re added then shoot us an email.

Manhunt News | Hidden Messages?

I was just sent an email informing me that there appears to be some message of ‘the new hunt’ hidden within a screensaver over at the official Manhunt website.

If you download one of the screensavers from the official Manhunt website, if it stays up for long enough, a fake IM appears, talking about things from "the new hunt."

The screensaver is internet enabled, meaning it can be updated at any given time. To get the screensaver head over to the official site, or click here for a shortcut to the appropriate page. Once on the 'Extras' page click 'Screensavers' and select 'Screensaver #1'. 'Screensaver #2' isn’t internet enabled so make sure you select the right one.

Unfortunately I never use screensavers so I am unsure if this is something new or not, perhaps someone reading knows? If so please feel free to let us know, either by commenting below or sending in an email.

Thanks to Brown for shooting me an email.

Rumour | Manhunt 2 Speculation

Forum regular fugshot seems to have been able to get in contact with someone close to the development of Manhunt 2. Amongst the information the source has turned up he claims that it is an all new city, new characters and no title has been finalised. He goes on to say that a release date is not in the foreseeable future (for whatever reason) but development started in early 2004 and the game is completed or on the peak of completion.

The source also hints at the game being developed at (the now closed) Rockstar Vienna. Much of which we have heard and reported on since the start of the year. You can read the entire thing by clicking here.

Since we can’t authenticate the original source we suggest that you take this as a rumour.

Manhunt 2 News | Manhunt 2 Once Again Confirmed

I have just received word from a trusted source that they have recorded dialogue for Manhunt 2.

Manhunt 2 is already in the can, and yes--I voiced a character for it. Unsure of the release date, however.

There you have it, short and sweet. That takes us too 3 voice actors confirming as much, and as many other sources hinting at it. As soon as we know anything else it will be posted here.

For all of you Ramirez fans out there, we have managed to get the opportunity to ask Chris McKinney (voice of Ramirez and Wardogs #4) some questions about his work on Manhunt and anything else you may like to know. If you have a question for Mr. McKinney then you can submit them to us via E-Mail or post them on the Forum.

There is also an update on the petition front; you can add your name to the petition by clicking here or by clicking on the image to the left of the page.

Manhunt News | Fan Creativity

Just thought I would drop in with an update of sorts, of what has been happening over the past few weeks.

There are a ton of rumours going around concerning Take-Two, Rockstar and potential games due to be released, I would dismiss them until we receive word from Take-Two/Rockstar themselves. Thanks to everyone that sent emails in, we haven’t ignored them, it is just impossible to report on every rumour that turns up concerning Take-Two and Rockstar. If we get anything we feel may have some element of truth to it we will be sure to post it here.

There is a movement taking place within the Manhunt community that is worth noting; many fans are attempting to send the word to Rockstar that they would like to see a sequel for Manhunt released sooner rather than later. If you too would like to add your two cents into the mix or would like to just post a general comment, you can do so by going here. Spread the word, nothing speaks like volume.

PC first person shooter fans are in for a treat as there is a Doom 3 mod in the works by the name of ‘Lynch’, the mod takes cue from Manhunt to name but one of its inspirations. Koroshiya Ichi (the author) sent me a brief overview of the project:

For those of you who like myself are desperately awaiting some news on Manhunt 2, I have a project you may be interested in.

Lynch is an upcoming, episodic Doom 3 modification which is greatly inspired by games such as Manhunt, Condemned: Criminal Origins and films in the vein of Irreversible and Man Bites Dog. As the player, you will be thrown in a desperate situation, where you must think and/or fight to survive. You'll be constantly forced into asking questions regarding moral inclination against the primal instinct to survive.

Told entirely through CCTV and body cameras, Lynch is a first person survival horror which combines elements of stealth, suspense and brutal melee combat. Just remember, it's only as violent as you are.

You can get more information on the mod by clicking here.

There have been a few homemade Manhunt videos made over the past few years but if you would like to peep the latest then click here. Currently they have made a short movie dedicated to the Smilies, next up for them is the Skinz, the team behind these movies have also been keeping the forum members updated with the status of them, by clicking here you can see images of the fourth coming Skinz short and other pieces of information.

There is a rather strange outburst of creativity taking place right now amongst Manhunt fans, this can further more be proven by checking out the newly added Fan Art section to the Image Gallery, forum member PiggsyX has been hard at work putting together busts, figures and memorial statues all relating to Manhunt characters and they look great. There is also some other submissions been added including potential gang members and characters by fugshot, as well as his (seemingly) monthly newspaper column dedicated to the happenings of Carcer City. Elsewhere there is a Manhunt comic in the works, but they aren’t up for showing that quite yet. Regular members to the forum are able to get an early preview however. There have also been quite a few text based works done including potential sequel scripts, weapon selection and a bevy of other subjects; you can join in on that fun here.

We are late in posting this but you can check out a Manhunt speed run here. Apologies to Sigma for taking so long to post this, it must have slipped off the radar. Anyway he is looking for feedback, if you have any words for him you can pass those along also on the Forum.

Site updates coming soon.
